Obama's address to Congress

I am beginning to think Obama can't help just talking out his ass.

OBAMA: "We have known for decades that our survival depends on finding new sources of energy. Yet we import more oil today than ever before."

THE FACTS: Oil imports peaked in 2005 at just over 5 billion barrels, and have been declining slightly since. The figure in 2007 was 4.9 billion barrels, or about 58 percent of total consumption. The nation is on pace this year to import 4.7 billion barrels, and government projections are for imports to hold steady or decrease a bit over the next two decades.

OBAMA: "We have launched a housing plan that will help responsible families facing the threat of foreclosure lower their monthly payments and refinance their mortgages. It's a plan that won't help speculators or that neighbor down the street who bought a house he could never hope to afford, but it will help millions of Americans who are struggling with declining home values."

THE FACTS: If the administration has come up with a way to ensure money only goes to those who got in honest trouble, it hasn't said so.

OBAMA: "Regulations were gutted for the sake of a quick profit at the expense of a healthy market. People bought homes they knew they couldn't afford from banks and lenders who pushed those bad loans anyway. And all the while, critical debates and difficult decisions were put off for some other time on some other day."

THE FACTS: This may be so, but it isn't only Republicans who pushed for deregulation of the financial industries. The Clinton administration championed an easing of banking regulations, including legislation that ended the barrier between regular banks and Wall Street banks. That led to a deregulation that kept regular banks under tight federal regulation but extended lax regulation of Wall Street banks. Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, later an economic adviser to candidate Obama, was in the forefront in pushing for this deregulation.

OBAMA: "In this budget, we will end education programs that don't work and end direct payments to large agribusinesses that don't need them. We'll eliminate the no-bid contracts that have wasted billions in Iraq, and reform our defense budget so that we're not paying for Cold War-era weapons systems we don't use. We will root out the waste, fraud and abuse in our Medicare program that doesn't make our seniors any healthier, and we will restore a sense of fairness and balance to our tax code by finally ending the tax breaks for corporations that ship our jobs overseas."

THE FACTS: First, his budget does not accomplish any of that. It only proposes those steps. That's all a president can do, because control over spending rests with Congress. Obama's proposals here are a wish list and some items, including corporate tax increases and cuts in agricultural aid, will be a tough sale in Congress.

Second, waste, fraud and abuse are routinely targeted by presidents who later find that the savings realized seldom amount to significant sums. Programs that a president might consider wasteful have staunch defenders in Congress who have fought off similar efforts in the past.

OBAMA: "Thanks to our recovery plan, we will double this nation's supply of renewable energy in the next three years."

THE FACTS: While the president's stimulus package includes billions in aid for renewable energy and conservation, his goal is unlikely to be achieved through the recovery plan alone.

In 2007, the U.S. produced 8.4 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, including hydroelectric dams, solar panels and windmills. Under the status quo, the Energy Department says, it will take more than two decades to boost that figure to 12.5 percent.

OBAMA: "Over the next two years, this plan will save or create 3.5 million jobs."

THE FACTS: This is a recurrent Obama formulation. But job creation projections are uncertain even in stable times, and some of the economists relied on by Obama in making his forecast acknowledge a great deal of uncertainty in their numbers.

The president's own economists, in a report prepared last month, stated, "It should be understood that all of the estimates presented in this memo are subject to significant margins of error."

It is a shame that saying it is so will not make it so. Until the day that Liberals stop living in a fantasy world and spend more time living in the real world with real consequences to their actions, they will never solve any problem.

Obama, what a bust.

This presidency has been maybe the most disappointing in history. Usually people talk about the first 100 days. People are already talking about the honeymoon being over. Could this be because Obama has shown zero leadership thus far?

Why is this guy racking up so many miles on Air Force 1 campaigning all over the country trying to convince people that his plan is going to work. Why is he working so hard at convincing people? Is it because everyone on Planet Earth has proclaimed that it will fail at its projected goal?

They say you get what you pay for and with Obama it was an empty shirt.

Obama cutting the deficit, what a joke

Just listened to the messiah's press conference about how he pledges to cut the deficit in half by the end of his term in office. I wish I could drink/smoke whatever he is getting. He just authorized the largest increase in spending in the HISTORY of the US and he is talking about cutting the deficit. I wonder how many more times he is going to blame the last administration for his deficit troubles, considering how there is a report out today that says the SPENDULUS package is actually going to cost close to 4,000,000,000,000. Yes, that is 4 trillion dollars, and that is not taking into account the 2 trillion Geithner wants to spend on the banks.

In order to cut the deficit you have to do one of two things. You either have to cut spending, or increase your income. To increase income you have to RAISE TAXES.

Considering Obama just increased the size of government like never before it is not too likely he will find anything to cut. After all, he does belong to the party of big government, and bigger government is even better. This leaves one thing that they can do, RAISE TAXES, period. There are no other options. Anyone telling you differently is blowing smoke up your ass.

The one thing you CANNOT do in a recession/depression is RAISE taxes. Well, unless you want it to last years and years and years. You cannot stimulate the economy by raising taxes, you depress the economy. But then this does play into what many people fear, and that is a society totally dependent on the government for everything. Can you see the bread lines now?

Hopefully, more people will take an interest in what our government is doing so that in 3 more years they will know the truth of what has gone on, instead of just believing the smooth talking. Our country has its own people to blame. They are the ones that weren't paying attention over the last decade to know the truth. The blindly follow. Once upon a time in America, people paid attention. They researched and questioned. The media did real investigations and reported what was going on. Now, the media is suspect and cannot be trusted. Maybe the millions and millions that have, and will lose their jobs in the coming months will take some of the time they have to research why it all happened. They will see it was the ENTIRE governmental process that was to blame, NOT BUSH, not just the democrats and not just the republicans.

America is on the slow decline into the Abyss.

Foreclosure Bailout plan

Can you imagine getting paid $1,000 a year to make your mortgage payments on time? How about an extra $5,000 over five years just for paying your loan on time. Um, isn't that what you are supposed to be doing when you take a loan out from anybody. Only in the U.S.S.A (United Socialist States of America) would be come up with an idea to give people money for doing that they are supposed to be doing.

This is right out of Obama's Plan:

If Family C remains current on their payments, they will receive incentive payments up to $1,000 a year, or $5,000 over five years, which would go towards reducing the principle they owe.

On top of this the Obama's want to pay the mortgage servicers a fee of $1,000 to $3,000 if the people stay in their homes. Just remember some of these mortgage servicers are the same ones that gave these deadbeats the loans they are defaulting on now.

Only in America do we reward bad behaviour and actually incentivise it.

If you don't think America is swirling around the toilet bowl with Obama doing the paddling you better put down the crack pipe.

The race card

Well, we have been lowered to the point where Representative Clyburn (D-SC) has suggested that if you oppose the stimulus package you are a rascist. I was getting worried that the race cards had all been played, but thankgoodness we have a new use for them.

Racism will be alive and well in America as long as narrow-minded pinheads keep using it as an excuse for what ails them. Here we have a BLACK man in the President's office and yet, somehow if we disagree with him me must be racist. It must be nice being born with a nice little security blanket wrapped around your shoulders so that when life throws you a curveball you can cry racism. Things don't go your way, obviously, rascism. You don't get hired for that job, rascism. You don't get the big promotion, racism. You are black and somebody disagrees with you, racism.

It can never be that you didn't work hard enough, or you were right for the job, or you didn't deserve the promotion, or your ideas are constipated. no, no, no. It must be racism.

Why is it you don't hear every other ethnic group in America crying rascism like the black population? What makes you so special? Jews, Muslims, Asians, Hispanics, Europeans the list goes on and on and on. The success stories go on and on and on. We see prominent black people all over our society that had no problem achieving lofty goals and positions in our country. As a matter of fact, a black person has held the top spot in just about every job that anyone can achieve.

This is just another example of the Leftwing liberal party trying to pandor to the black vote that they take advantage of and manipulate every election cycle. Wise up people, maybe you should stand up for yourselves and stop relying on politicians to spoon feed you what you want to hear. After all, they have not done all that much for your causes for the last 30 years, but maybe you just haven't noticed, because they talk so smoothily.

Obama Spendoholic

Well, he is at it again. Another spending package. Why should people that are getting foreclosed on get to get money from the government? If they can't pay their mortgages now, why do we think they will pay them in a 6 months? a year? The new plan actually rewards people for being irresponsible. It gives them a $1,000 up front and then if they are still current on their new mortgages another $1,000 in a year. WTF is going on in America. Is anybody going to give us money for paying our mortgage on time? Answer, no.

Why should these people get to re-negotiate their loans? This is the new Liberal America where there are no consequences for personal conduct. Buy a house to big for your income, no problem, the government will sweeten the deal and lower your payments to 31% of your income level, and the governement will pick up the tab for any fees associated with lowering yoru rates. Get pregnant because you are too stupid to use contraception, no problem, just get an abortion. The liberal left will not be happy until the day when Americans are totally reliant on the governmente for their handouts. Ask California how well it is working in their state. Last check has California at $42 billion in debt, oopsy.

Hopefully the majority of people losing their jobs are liberals, after all, it was the liberal agenda of Clinton and the Democratic controlled congress that put us in this position to begin with. It is amazing that people have forgotten that when Ronald Reagan took office unemployment was almost 11% and prime interest rate was 21%. What did he do to get the economy going again?

CUT TAXES ACROSS THE BOARD, PERIOD. What happened after he did that? Well, the biggest economic boom this country had seen since World War II is what happened, but the Democrats wanted to spend money on all their liberal pet projects instead, and because of their egos and their ignorance you will suffer for the next 10 years probably, 4 for sure. Why is it you have not heard one economist say that Obama's plan as it is laid out will restart the economy and get things going forward and upward? Because it won't, that's why.

Thanks Microsoft

Just wanted to say thank you for screwing up Internet Explorer whatever edition you are on. It is nice having it crash almost every time I use it. Forget about using IE8 with Facebook. It will freeze every time you try and use the Java application to upload pictures. Use Firefox instead, much more stable browser.

Bill Maher is a Liar

I was on a commercial break from the show I was watching so I flipped on Larry King because he was supposed to have Cpt. Sullenberger on his show. Instead it is Bill Maher sitting there. Larry asked some question about the Spendulus Bill and Bill Maher responded why should anyone look at the Republicans Stimulus package when after all it was just a few months ago that they were in charge. LIAR

The Democrats have been in charge since 2006. The congress, NOT the president drives legislation coming out of the congress. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have been in charge. The real question is why doesn't anyone give them credit for what they did to America the last 2 years. The economy was actually doing well for 6 years up to when they took control of congress again.

The Democrats were in charge of EVERY committee, that's both Banking committees. You remember the hearings they held a couple years ago where Barney Frank and that idiot Maxine Waters were saying that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were in great shape and there was no need for any investigation of them.

Bill Maher is your typical left wing Liberal. They can't rely on the truth of the record. They have to lie and distort, or outright rewrite history to escape what they have done to this country. Every time the liberals are in charge the country is weakened, see 9/11 and the Cole, the Embassy bombings, the mortgage crisis, the first Twin Tower bombings. Wake America before you find yourself with nothing.

The sickness that is our Government

Here we are in just one of the worst economic periods in our country and the people that we have voted into office to run the government are more concerned with lining their own pockets and the pockets of their friends, than they are in solving this problem.

During the 90s Japan tried to spend their way out of a recession. You might have heard Obama bring up how Japan's recession lasted 10 years. What you didn't hear Obama say was that the reason it lasted 10 years was because they tried to SPEND their way out of it, and it didn't work. It never works.

Historically our Government spends between 17-21% GNP. Whenever we spend over this amount unemployment rises with it. If you go back 30 years you will see that every time we have gone above these numbers the unemployment went up with it. After it got up to 24% or so and unemployment was above 10% and they got spending under control and brought it down to 17%GNP, guess what? the unemployment dropped to all time lows of 3 - 4%. The projections for GNP spending after the stimulus bill has been put into action and the bank bailouts and such could approach 39% which would be an ALL TIME high. Look for unemployment to push close to 15%.

The Democrats got what they wanted. This bill will not do much in the way of creating any jobs for up two years. The Republicans had a stimulus plan that was designed to create 6 million jobs, or about twice the Democrat Spendulus bill and it would have cost HALF as much. Imagine that two times as many jobs for half the cost, but there was a downside to the Republican bill, it wouldn't have paid off the unions and all the other people that the Democrats wanted to funnel money to.

The Congressional Budget office, a not-partisan organization, has estimated that the Stimulus bill over ten years will cost 3.7 Trillion dollars.

Obama and his pals have really screwed the United States by putting themselves first, and the country a distant second. It is a shame that we are all going to have to suffer so much to prove to the masses that voted for Obama and his cronies that you got sold a bill of goods that didn't exist. He was a smooth talker and you drank the Kool-aid. Wake up America. Big government hurts us all. Conservatism is the way out of a recession not liberalism. You cannot afford to be liberal in a recession.

Those that don't learn from History, have no Future.

Obama and Faith

It will be interesting to see how little the far left media in our country ignores the creation of a Faith-based inniatives office in the White House. I remember when President Bush suggested letting community faith-based operations take care of many of the problems plaguing our society and people were up in arms. The fact that he was a very out front Christian seemed to really irritate people in this country on the left.

I suppose it is not surprising given the fact that liberals only bring out faith or religion when they want to score some political points with somebody. They use it like a shiny new suit that they put on every four years when it is election season. The left after all wants to see the elimination of morals and values in our country. They want no consequences to our actions. After all they are the party of abortion, the party of special rights to people that have altering sexual preferences, the welfare party, the socialist party.
